Hybrid Styles Tote Bags

I have already posted a reel on my instagram about my tote bags, but I thought I would post a short blog about the design.

We associate tote bags as the give away item at university/college open events, and promotional giveaways. The standard calico printed tote. I made myself a tote bag about 6 years ago out of some furnishing fabric and an old care seat belt. It was lined with one pocket. It was great for doing small shops and carrying my lunch and a book. The only issue was it lacked pockets.

My Hybrid Styles tote bag is fully lined and has two pockets. One single pocket and a double denim pocket, a place for your leys, mobile phone, pens or loose change.

The straps are made from either suitcase security straps or cotton webbing. The webbing has been an issue, as originally I found some at home and after stitching to the first two bags, my wife said, "That looks like my suitcase strapping!" I had to confess. I had to try and search for a sustainable supplier, which I could not. The only one I could find was vintage camo ex army surplus, and it did not really fit the aesthetic I was looking for. The only part of the tote bags which is new.

The main fabric is made from eco-denim, locally sourced and is made from recycled cotton and polyester fashion industry waste.

All the tote bags are one-off designs and unique. The linings are made from different recycled shirts.
